How to Measure Horse Bits:

We suggest that you use a piece of string to measure from one corner of the horse's mouth to the other.

The mouthpiece should ideally be 19mm (3/4 inch) larger than this measurement.
-
If a couple of wrinkles can be seen each side of the horse's mouth, this is a good guide that the bit is sitting in the correct place.
Mouthpiece sizes:
Extra small pony: 3 1/2 inch (9cm) Shetland: 4 inch (10cm) Pony: 4 1/2 inch (11.5cm) Cob: 5 to 5 1/4 inch (12.5 to 13cm) Full: 5 1/2 to 5 3/4 inch (14 to 14.25cm)
